Toverberg Guest Houses consists of a selection of beautifully restored Karoo town houses in the quiet and historic Bell Street. These consist of private units, some with two bedrooms and others with one bedroom. They all have private lounges and lockup garages. Self catering facilities include dinnerware, a microwave oven, a refrigerator and barbecue facilities. Breakfast is available on request at our reception house situated in Charl Cilliers Street.
From its earliest days Colesberg has been a bustling resting and meeting place, a gateway to the north for explorers and hunters. The town still is a traveller's oasis on the main routes to the interior and the coastline. Here the N1 and the N9 meet and the town is the southern gateway to the Lake Xariep tourist route (R58) which covers the Gariep Dam, Norvalspont, Venterstad, Oviston and Bethulie. The Colesberg-Kemper Museum with its 19th century toy collection memorabilia is also the permanent house to the UNISA Karoo Nomad Photographic Exhibition. Together with the Anglo Boer War sites and a fine selection of 19th century buildings Colesberg offers an exciting reflection on the past and present.
Close by is a 9 hole golf course with challenging Karoo fairways but well maintained greens and a well equipped club house. Other facilities in town include tennis courts, cycling and walking routes, bird watching and the unique sunrises and sunsets. Excellent restaurants, a museum, shops and a supermarket are all within walking distance. |
