DESCRIPTION:

South Africa's only ski resort! Deep in the heart of the Southern Drakensberg, cradled in the shadow of the majestic Ben McDhui Peak at 3001m, lies Tiffindell Ski Resort. This resort guarantees you three full months of skiing per year. It's a romantic's paradise - a team spirited getaway - a dream family holiday.

The resort offers a beginner slope, and two main ski slopes. Our team of experienced snow groomers pride themselves in ensuring you'll always find perfect skiing conditions. Our state of the art snowmaking guarantees you the best skiing experience, no matter what Mother Nature is thinking. Our highly experienced local and international instructors will teach you quickly and safely, whether you're on snow for the first time, or just want a few technique pointers.

Stay in cosy, comfortable timber lodgings with central heating. Our accommodation sleeps up to 200 guests, and is all within 100 metres of the slope. Choose from our first-class luxury leisure chalets to budget lodge accommodation.

Sit down to a full English breakfast before hitting the slopes, and then enjoy a hearty three-course dinner at the end of an exhilarating day. Sip gluhwein and warm by the fire in Ice Station 2720, South Africa's highest pub. Take a break from the slopes at Yeti's mountain pub. Get blown away by our resort entertainment, drink shooters upside down, witness ski-burning ceremonies, enjoy our cabaret and an evening of good fun with friends. Fun for the whole family is guaranteed.

Tiffindell's winter season is from mid May until early September.

DIRECTIONS:

FROM BLOEMFONTEIN - 419km (4.5hours) FROM JOHANNESBURG - 817km (9hrs)

Follow the N1 through Bloemfontein . On the Southern outskirts take the turnoff to Aliwal North (N6) Kerkstraat / Church street. Follow the signs to Aliwal North through Reddersburg, Smithfield, and Rouxville. On entering Aliwal, turn right at the first robots. Travel along the main road and turn left before the church towards Lady Grey / Tiffindell. Do not go to Jamestown. Drive past Lady Grey (it is off the road) and after another 74km you will arrive in Barkly East. En route to Barkly East you will pass a big sign that says "Tiffindell via Wartrail". This route is shorter and accessible with 2WD, but rough in some sections. It takes you to the Bidstone base Station where you can safely park your car and catch the shuttle up. This route is supported by the local community in the event of an emergency. Call 045-974 9900 (Chris or Kath) for latest road conditions or emergency assistance.

FROM DURBAN - 650km (7.5hrs)

Go to Kokstad via Port Shepstone and then Harding. Follow the route through Mount Ayliff, Mount Frere, Tsolo, Maclear, Ugie, Elliot and Barkly East. Watch out for children, animals and potholes when traveling through the old Transkei.

FROM CAPE TOWN - 1177km (13hrs)

Head for Aliwal North, via Colesburg, Venterstad and Burgersdorp. Then follow directions as from JHB from Aliwal.

FROM PORT ELIZABETH - 642kms (7.5hrs) FROM EAST LONDON - 521kms (6hrs)

Head to Barkly East via Grahamstown, Fort Beaufort, Seymour,Whittlesea, Queenstown, Dordrecht, Indwe, Elliot, and then on to Barkly East. From East London travel via Stutterheim and Cathcart to get to Queenstown and then follow instructions as from Port Elizabeth. It is shorter via the Transkei (N2 > Nqamakwe > Tsomo > Engcobo > Elliot > Barkly)

AT BARKLY EAST PHONE ABOUT ROAD CONDITIONS AND SHUTTLE AVAILIBILITY

(if you did not make arrangements when booking your holiday you may experience timing delays).
There are suitable toilet facilities at FK Sports Cafe. Follow the signs to Rhodes going left at Alex Multiplex and then right after the Barkly East Bottle Store, the road soon becomes dirt. From here it is 60 km of good dirt road to Rhodes. When arriving at Rhodes and you are catching the shuttle, follow the signs to Walkerbouts, the shuttle pick up point. If you are driving up, CHECK ROAD INFORMATION BOARD JUST OUTSIDE RHODES - a 2WD 1300 vehicle with no trailer will make it up in good weather.
