| DESCRIPTION: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Somabula Nature Reserve is ideally situated for weekend getaways, only one hour from Johannesburg and 40 minutes from Pretoria. We have 400 hectares of indigenous trees, pristine bush and excellent birding. The reserve boasts a wide variety of antelope as well as giraffe, zebra and wildebeest. New species of game such as kudu and waterbuck were recently introduced. Accommodation is offered in self catering stone and wooden chalets situated in secluded treed areas, which accommodate up to 4 people each, as well as accommodation in beautifully restored ox wagons. All are fully equipped including linen, bedding, crockery and cutlery, braai (barbecue) areas, gas cooking, refrigeration facilities, hot and cold water, and solar lighting. There is also a lovely shaded camping ground with braai (barbecue) and ablution facilities, hot and cold water. Maximum 6 people per site. Day visitors can make use of the lapa with it's barbecue area for family gatherings or special occasions. Game drives and horse rides led by a knowlegeable guide are offered which makes it possible to get very close to the game. On a night drive expect to see an array of nocturnal animals such as the lesser bushbaby, porcupine and ant-bears. There are more than 30km of roads and trails for walking and mountain biking. One can also visit the quaint diamond village of Cullinan for a tour in the world famous Premier Diamond Mine, and stroll down the historic Oak Avenue with its various museums, shops and restaurants. |
