Rocky Road Backpackers are overlooked by the nearby Tsitsikamma Mountains with its numerous streams and river systems burbling through pockets of dense indigenous forests. The Crags is home to Monkeyland primate sanctuary, Birds of Eden - the world's largest free flight aviary, the Elephant Sanctuary, The Snake Park and Tenikwa Wildlife Centre caring for lesser felines plus cheetah and leopard.
The Crags has a host of fabric, leather, pottery, woodwork, cheese and other craft shops, plus restaurants and a wine estate to explore. A trip down the nearby 130 year-old Thomas Bain built Groot River Pass gets you to secluded Natures Valley which boasts a spectacular beach, estuary river system and numerous scenic day hikes along coastline, through forest and fynbos.
Rocky Road, approximately 2kms from the N2, is a small-holding surrounded by open green pastures and indigenous forest. Within our well laid out and maintained feature gardens accommodation is available in a mix of dorms, cottage rooms as well as luxury dome tents on covered decks - all fully equipped with beds, bedding and electric blankets to take the edge off those chilly nights. We have erected 6 brand new Luxury dome tents on timber decks with roofing. Our tents are equiped with 2 single or 1 double bed. The tents have bedding, lights, electrical blankets and carpets for a memorable stay. We currently have 2 bathrooms that service this area. We are in the process of erecting additional toilet facilities.
Our main homestead is the social hub of the Rocky Road lifestyle with open fire places in our veranda and pub area; the lounge with satellite TV and wi-fi. We have facilities for those who wish to self cater although our country kitchen has an established reputation for the farm-style meals and braai’s we produce.
Our plunge pool/hot tub combination is a winner over hot days and those special nights when we fire it up to allow the hot bubbling waters wash away the stresses of a busy day. |
