Kulungi Riverside Lodge is situated on the banks of the Olifants River in the vast Balule Nature Reserve which is part of the Greater Kruger Park, and is a mere 30km from the Phalaborwa entrance to the Kruger. The lodge offers 5 comfortable, very private, spaciously thatched chalets, 2 luxury tents and 2 self catering units. Each with their own en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning (excluding luxury tents), ceiling fan, mosquito net, tea / coffee facilities (excluding self catering units), mini bar (excluding self catering units), and private patio where the guests can savour the tranquillity of the haunting night sounds of Africa. From the patio guests can also view the abundant species of game, antelope as well as four of the Big 5, drinking on the banks of the Olifants River or at the water hole in front of the chalets. Each chalet / tent / unit can accommodate up to 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 children.
Unwind during the heat of the day around the sparkling pool and later enjoy a cold sundowner on the lodges patio, boma area or at the cosy well stocked bar. There is a TV with full DSTV situated in the bar area. The restaurant has a lovely light wooden and bush appearance, where all meals including a full hot and cold breakfast and 3 course dinner are served each day / night. A new boma area has just been completed where outdoor dining under the stars can be enjoyed as well as a relaxing evening sitting around the large fire pit. By prior arrangements at breakfast we are happy to provide a picnic basket or a light lunch in the restaurant or around the pool.
Early morning and evening game drives with a ranger will reveal the wonders of the bush and enthusiastic ornithologists can view over 300 species of birds including the shy purple crested lourie, the fierce and majestic bateleur, to the rare pels fishing owl. Golf enthusiasts can unwind on one of the picturesque courses within easy driving distance from Kulungi and a must would be at the renowned Hans Merensky Golf Course where it is common to see elephant, giraffe, warthogs, baboons and a variety of antelope crossing the rolling fairways. Other popular attractions in the area are the Amarula Lapa, Jumbo River Safaris, Masorini Iron Works, Khamai Reptile Park, Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and the Cheetah Research Centre. |
