| DESCRIPTION: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The country road winds past vineyards and orchards to Klippe Rivier, a magnificent Cape Dutch Country House, circa 1820, on the outskirts of the historic town of Swellendam, two hours from Cape Town and the Garden Route. A warm friendly welcome awaits you from Taffy the corgi, and Magic the black cat. It was once the family home of the Free State Presidents Steyn and Reitz. It recalls the gracious past with its spacious "voorkamer" and reception rooms where the gleaming yellowwood floors enhance the beautiful antiques. The original "waenhuis" and stables have been converted into luxury air-conditioned bedrooms preserving much of the original ambience. Downstairs, the spacious bedrooms each have their own open fireplace, dressing room and generous bathroom with separate shower and toilet. Loft rooms upstairs under thatch offer mountain views and private balconies. The secluded cottage is ideal for honeymooners. Relax at the saltwater swimming pool and enjoy the company of owls in the oaks. Visit the Drostdy Museum, Bontebok Park and nearby wine route, or the southernmost tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas. Horse riding can also be arranged. At the end of the day return to the peace of the farm and sample excellent country cuisine and Cape wines. |
