King's Grant Country Retreat was originally built a mission station by German Trappist Monks but has now been tastefully restored and converted into a Three Star Guest Lodge with the luxuries of today's living, whilst retaining its authentic charm.
The establishment offers individually decorated guest rooms, a country-style restaurant for lunches and dinners as well as a number of other exclusive venues for weddings, functions, conferences and a variety of activities. All guest rooms have en-suite bathrooms, TV with M-Net, tea / coffee trays, heaters and fans and private patios. The Lavender Gardens suites also offer self catering facilities and have braai (barbecue) places. In keeping with life in the country, guests are welcomed into their rooms with flowers freshly picked from the extensive gardens.
Onsite activities include fishing, walks, canoeing, excellent bird watching (over 200 species recorded due to the wide range of habitats), endless opportunities for photography lovers, picnic baskets, sundowners and fine wine, and dining in our restaurant which focuses on home grown herbs, colour and farm-fresh ingredients.

Coming from Johannesburg, bypass Pietermaritzburg and take the Market Road off-ramp (last one into Pmb), continue along this road past the first set of robots and glide left onto CB Downes Rd. Continue to robot intersection with Murray Road, turn right onto Murray Rd and travel along it until it joins with the R56 to Richmond / Ixopo. Turn left onto the R56 and travel along this road for approx. 84.6km where you will reach the crossroads at the intersection with the R612. Turn left onto the R612 and continue to turnoff for King's Grant.
From the South of Pietermaritzburg: N3 North
Coming from Durban towards Pietermaritzburg, take the R56 off-ramp for Ixopo / Richmond near Camperdown. Travel along this road for approx. 11km until it intersects with the R56. Turn left onto the R56 and continue until you reach the crossroads outside Ixopo. Turn left onto the R612, and continue to turnoff for King's Grant.
From the South along the N2 from Durban: N2 South
Travel along this freeway from Durban until you get to the R612 off-ramp at Park Rynie. Turn right across the bridge onto the R612 and continue along this road for 80km (total distance ex Park Rynie to Ixopo is 83km). Approximately 3km before it intersects with the R56 outside Ixopo, start looking out for the turnoff on the right to King's Grant. We do have signs up as well. Travel along this dirt road until you reach the turnoff for King's Grant.
