We take only one booking at a time to provide you with an exclusive holiday and ensure that your stay is tailormade to your requirements. It is perfect for family safaris or small groups of friends looking to experience true African hospitality and wildlife in a private, luxury safari lodge set within a private game reserve. Game drives are in our 4x4 open landrovers with highly trained and experienced rangers. There are 3 small self catering lodges. They are all secluded, private and fully equipped. At the Kingfisher chalet, you can sit on the veranda with wide views across the Palala river to the far hills. Single party bookings ensure privacy. Ideal for small groups or families. 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, large sitting room with log fire, braai, swimming pool, fully serviced.
River Cottage, is an isolated cottage set in a beautiful spot, often visited by our resident rhino, and is right next to the Palala river. Perfect for a couple, the cottage sleeps two people (fixed double bed) with mosquito netting. It has a bathroom with bath and shower, lounge with fireplace and fully kitted kitchen. This exclusive, romantic hideaway cottage is for those who want to get away from it all in style.
Podica Chalets each have an outside shower, in addition to a bathroom with bath. The chalets are all set in the same vicinity, but have individual braai areas. There is use of a swimming pool within 5 minutes walk away. Relax in a hammock, walk, enjoy game viewing or watching the abundant bird life and cool off under your private bush shower.

Take the N1 north highway from Johannesburg / Pretoria.
Turn off at the Kranskop toll gate to Nylstroom / Modimolle.
Go through Nylstroom / Modimolle to Vaalwater (± 70km).
In Vaalwater turn right at the stop street towards Melkriver (there is only one stop street in Vaalwater).
You will see the First National Bank on the corner.
Go ± 40km and turn left onto dirt road marked Melkriver School / Lapalala.
After ± 5km turn right (there is an old Cape Dutch farm house on the right hand side) and pass the Rhino Museum.
The road bends to the left keep going until you see the sign for Kingfisher Cottage which will be on your right, before the Palala River Bridge.
DIRECTIONS TO RIVER COTTAGE
Take the N1 north highway from Johannesburg / Pretoria.
Turn off at the Kranskop toll gate to Nylstroom / Modimolle.
Go through Nylstroom / Modimolle to Vaalwater (± 70km).
In Vaalwater turn right at the stop street towards Melkriver (there is only one stop street in Vaalwater).
You will see the First National Bank the corner.
Go ± 50km, the road ends at a T-junction. (Ignore the Jembisa sign on the left and continue until you reach the T-junction)
Turn left at the T-junction and after approximately 2km you will see a farm gate on the left, (approx 500m before the Palala River - if you’ve crossed the river you have gone past the gate.) There is a double gate with a combination lock on it. You will be met there and taken to River Cottage.
