The rustic farm-style setting of The Houthoop is ideal for visitors to Namaqualand who would like to experience true Namaqualand hospitality, and is situated only 20km from the sea. The Namaqua National Park, Port Nolloth, Hondeklipbay, Kleinzee and Springbok are all between 15km - 120km from us and make The Houthoop the ideal base whilst visiting the area.

The name, "Houthoop", was derived from a stack of indigenous "Redvig" wood, that was placed here in the shape of a shelter. It has been in existence for over 45 years and now serves as an open-air restaurant. Accommodation is available at reasonable prices, as well as conferencing facilities & wedding catering services. We offer three types of accommodation at The Houthoop. There are two bedrooms in the guest house, wooden huts and camping grounds near the guest house. A fully stocked bar is available for something cool after a hot day's bundu-bashing. The lounge in the guest house is available to all visitors where they may relax; make use of the private bar facilities and catch up on current affairs on satellite TV.

Visitors can enjoy the peaceful tranquillity of farm-life, go on informal walking trails and study the wildlife. There are many veld activities from camping, 4x4 trails and tractor rides. The coast, rich with sea life, is only 20km from the farm. With a permit and a restriction table, crayfish and mussels are obtainable from the rocks. The area is remote, the people are friendly and we have a very safe environment. You can enjoy wonderful meals / traditional food at The Houthoop.
