Situated on the banks of the St. Lucia Estuary near the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park and Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve, this idyllic luxury lodge is your ideal gateway to the unspoiled beaches of the Elephant Coast.

The lodge comprises of 20 luxury air-conditioned suites including a honeymoon suite. Each suite has its own fully self contained kitchen, available on either a self catering or bed & breakfast basis. There are 7 two sleeper units, 12 four sleeper units and 1 honeymoon suite. All rooms have luxury fittings and are decorated with a true ethnic style. Rooms are provided with DSTV, tea and coffee, toiletries, bed linen & towels supplied, microwave oven, and fridge / freezer.

Birdlife is abundant in the area and Hippo Hideaway is proud to be awarded "Birder Friendly" status by Birdlife South Africa. The central thatched Boma which faces out over the swimming pool is the ideal area to either relax in the hammocks or sit in the shade to adjust to the relaxing pace of Zululand.

Some of the units have their own braai (barbecue) areas and the rest are communal. In the evenings life doesn't get much better than gazing out over the bank of the estuary whilst the fire crackles in the background.
