This rustic, Victorian guest house in the breathtakingly beautiful Swellendam region of South Africa's Garden Route radiates an old world charm and rustic elegance that has made it famous the world over. The Hideaway is situated in a beautiful quiet and secure area in a side street close to the historical centre of town and close to many of the restaurants. Your hosts Mark and Diana offer a unique experience of 5 star accommodation and genuine personal hospitality. The bed and breakfast is situated in a peaceful and secure garden setting that has over 600 rose bushes, and abundant birdlife. The house has four very spacious and elegant individually decorated rooms. These rooms are all air-conditioned and furnished with fine handcrafted furniture, antiques and beautiful original paintings. Various facilities are also available in each room including fresh flowers, magazines, books, bottles of port and muscadel, tea / coffee making facilities and a bowl of Diana's famous shortbread biscuits. A choice of either a sumptuous, English style cooked breakfast or an extensive continental breakfast, are both served with Diana's jaw dropping selection of homemade preserves and fresh from the oven muffins. The house has a comfortable lounge to relax in and meet your hosts and fellow guests. Unwind under the vine covered pergola with a glass of wine, or recline in your deck chair on the sunny manicured lawn. There are many recommended restaurants in Swellendam which are within easy and safe walking distance of establishment. Guests are offered a free orientation trip around Swellendam and tour of Railton a suburb adjacent to Swellendam. The Drosdy Museum and other historical national monuments also situated in the surrounding area. Whatever your plans may be, we will ensure that we spoil you in a special way, suited to your own individual tastes. |

| Travelling from Knysna or Mossel Bay (on the N2) Turn right at the Swellendam East turn-off, and then take the 2nd street on the left hand side which will be Hermanus Steyn Street. The bed and breakfast is situated at No. 10, the 3rd house on your left. Same instructions apply, while travelling from Oudtshoorn on the R62 / Barrydale / Tradouw Pass (R324) and then onto the N2 highway. Travelling from Cape Town (on the N2) Driving on the N2 highway bypass other turn-offs until you reach the Swellendam East turn-off, and then turn left and the take 2nd street on the left hand side which will be Hermanus Steyn Street. The bed and breakfast is situated at No. 10, the 3rd house on your left. |
