In the middle of South Africa, is a town called De Aar. Famous for steam trains, sheep and springbuck, it has in the last 8 years also become popular amoungst paragliding & hang gliding pilots from around the world. The reason is Fly De Aar Lodge (previously known as Potties B&B) & Des and Arnold Pansi, the hosts at Fly De Aar Lodge built a flying site here in April 2003. The guest house and De Aar flying site is known for its reliable weather and perfect flying conditions. Fly De Aar Lodge is also unique in the Karoo, as it is the only guest house in the northern cape region which offers paragliding to its guests. Licenced and non-licenced pilots are all welcome, as tandem flights and / or courses are offered (weather dependent).

The site, which is run by Fly De Aar School of Paragliding & Fly De Aar Lodge, currently holds several world records, including the Open Distance World Record. The town is reknowned for reliable weather and wonderful flying conditions.
