| DESCRIPTION: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ezemvelo Nature Reserve is situated on the Bankenveld, which is the transition ecotone between the grassland and savanna biomes. The reserve is one of the biggest unspoilt grasslands left in South Africa. The clear waters of the Wilge River cut through the reserve forming beautiful gorges and valleys. The bushy river valleys are home to extensive animal and birdlife. The wetlands and rocky areas are home to many specialised bird and insect species, as well as predators. Hiking and walking trails have been developed in these areas to acquaint the visitor with the best opportunity to observe nature closely. Various species of game can be viewed at the reserve including wildebeest, kudu, zebra, impala, vervet monkey, white rhino, hyena and leopard. Two hundred and fifty bird species have been identified and the list is growing. The reserve has comfortable self catering chalets and rustic mountain / hiker huts. Caravan and camping facilities are also available for the visitors. All the camping sites have electrical power points and neat ablution facilities. The impala and the eland lapas are provided for group accommodation. The reserve has conference facilities and it can host up to 30 delegates. |
