Information about Easby Guest House

Easby (Historic) Guest House was built in the 1890's. It was originally used as former Boer quarters and an ammunition base and then after the relief of Ladysmith, the British decided to occupy the house. This beautifully restored 9 en-suite bedroomed mansion offers excellent 3 star accommodation. Eight of the rooms have their own outside entrances. The spacious dining room offers delicious genuine South African home cooked mini buffets. The quaint, fully stocked bar and pool room, is built in the old Boer war ammunition stash situated underneath the house. Breakfast is a very important occasion that takes place on the spacious 100 metre square veranda. From here unfolds the most magnificent panoramic views on the Drakensberg Mountains.

900m from Easby Guest House lies the 1890 Acton Homes stone chapel with the old family cemetery. Real old fashion weddings are held in this unique chapel without electricity, music played on the old peddle organ, making your wedding a memorial occasion. The owners are geared to do all the arrangements and functions. 20m from the back door starts a well maintained 3km historical walk. Steps that take you up the mountain, open a bygone era where Her Majesty's Imperial army was facing death in the form of accurate fire from the Boer Mausers. The Boer fortifications and gun position on the ridge, where the trail takes you, forms a stark contrast with the breathtaking views. The owner, a KZN registered specialist tour guide will open a fascinating world to you and can relate tales that will keep you spell bound.

The surrounding area offers countless sight seeing, walks, tours, climbs, visits, rides, flights and resorts. The whole of the surrounding Drakensberg Mountains whose peaks reaches 3500m, is declared World Heritage. Being absolutely centrally situated, 2 - 3 hours from Durban, 3 - 4 hours from Johannesburg, and 3.5 hours from Bloemfontein, makes Easby Guest House an ideal stop over, as well as a holiday destination. A visit at the guest house will definitely make you want to come back. You might find, like hundreds of others, to consider Easby a "once a year destination". We hope to see you soon!
