Information about Clearwater Cottage

Clearwater Cottage is situated on our family farm in the garden of the main farmhouse. We are only 10 minutes drive inland from Port Edward village and the beach. It is a 110 hectare working farm, growing bananas and macadamia nuts. The cottage looks out onto an indigenous garden with a distant ocean view, a swimming pool and a braai (barbecue) area. The garden is rich in birdlife and the occasional buck can be seen passing by. The accommodation consists of two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed, and the other one with twin beds. There is a double sleeper couch in the sitting room. There are two bathrooms (shower only), one is accessable to wheelchairs. The kitchenette which is equipped for six people, features a mini oven with two hotplates, a microwave, a fridge, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. The rooms lead onto a closed verandah. Television has SATV channels, but you may bring your own Smartcard, arrange with Multichoice first.

The activities on and around Clearwater Cottage are numerous and are particularly well suited for those who enjoy peace and privacy close to nature. Farm tours can be arranged. Guests are welcome to explore the farm along the marked mountain bike trails on foot or on mountain bike. Bikes can be hired from Clearwater Trail Centre which also has a Restaurant and Art Gallery. The trails take you through the plantations, indigenous bush, passed dams, streams and through open grasslands with their wonderful wildflower displays in Spring. The trails lead off the farm, through the adjoining Beaver Creek Coffee farm which has a Coffee Shop & coffee farm tours. Then travel down to the renowned Red Desert (the "smallest desert in the world").

The Umtamvuna Gorge Viewing Deck is at the end of a boardwalk which leads from Clearwater Cottage into the adjoining Umtamvuna Nature Reserve. The spectacular views across the Umtamvuna River Gorge are particularly special at sundown. Various trails pass through a wide variety of scenery with forests, waterfalls, streams, river, grasslands and rocky outcrops. It is such bliss to cool off under the waterfall after climbing up out of the gorge on a hot day! It is one of the most botanically rich reserves in South Africa with more rare trees than any other. The bird list stands at 240 and there is plenty of wildlife.
