Berghaven is a double-deck A-frame cottage house surrounded by the beautiful Karoo Mountains. It is situated on the R354 road, also known as the Middelpos / Sutherland road. Berghaven is 46km out of Calvinia, of which approximately 20km is gravel road, and Middelpos is 30km to the other side. Many tourists use this particular road to visit the well-known SALT station in Sutherland, which is 120km from Berghaven. Berghaven is situated on the property of the main farm house, Kapgat.
With its beautiful mountains also comes an exciting 4x4 route, which leads to the top of the Kapgat Mountain. Here, you can enjoy a picnic or embark on a breathtaking walk amongst the Karoo bushes. Freshly packed picnic baskets are available for hire. Springboks can also be seen here. If you are in the mood for a hike in the field, the mountain "Loerkop" is ideal to climb and to experience one of the Karoo's most spectacular views from atop. "Loerkop" is a 2km walk from Berghaven and it is therefore a fantastic hiking trail. During spring time, the most amazing "veldblomme" paint the rough ground of the field, adding wonderful rays of colour to the Karoo!
